So I get asked on the daily if I only photograph little ones. I could just give you the straight to the point answer, being no I don't. But you know what, I thought I'd write a whole blog post on it, lucky lucky you!
So, I've pretty much photographed everything within the 5ish years I've taken photography as more than a hobby. Uni was a massive contributor to this, allowing me to test everything and anything I could find until I found the thing I liked. So if you're looking for a photographer, no matter what it may be, it's always worth asking me!
However, alongside specialising in Newborn, Child, Family, Cake Smash & Splash and Maternity (aaah it's a long speciality but I love it) I also help others on their road to creating their Brand Story; in terms of content creation for both online & offline use.
When people ask what Brand Story is, a lot of the time (well pretty much every time) my initial answer is your branding for your business. But when I actually think more about it, it’s not only that, your brand is whatever you are wanting to portray. Whether you be a blogger and you need extra content for your Instagram, whether you’re in sports and you need some shots of yourself in action for your agency, or whether you’re a dancer (like the gorgeous gals below) and you may need some photos for your portfolio…anything you do and you portray is your branding, you are your brand.
So there really is no boundary to what a Brand Story package can help you with!
If you’ve followed me for a while you’ll know that my style is very minimalistic, and that’s not only for the little bubbas that I photograph, that goes for everything. For me when I’m looking at something online, the ones that shout out to me are pictures with those exact characteristics, they scream out to us because they’re fresh and they’re clean and they’re so aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Think about it, when you scroll on your phone do you prefer to see an image like the one I’ve described, or one that’s dark, low lit and cooler looking? It’s all about aesthetics.
For me, when creating your brand story you’ve really got to know what you like to see online, because what you like to see online is the style you should be posting.
As humans we are constantly judging and basing ourselves on what others are posting or liking in general, and I am a sucker for this too. It’s actually something that’s clouded my judgement in the past and I’ve began creating work that I didn’t like just because I thought others would like it.
Well, I can tell you now that it didn’t work for long because I didn’t like it and I got bored pretttttty soon, and no matter how many other people like it, if you don’t, it won’t work, and I can guarantee that.
Well, it’s the exact same for your branding and how you portray yourself online.
Social media is one of our largest advertising platforms nowadays, so we need to make sure were utilising that. A simple snap on your phone can work a treat, and trust me that’s what I do on the daily, but sometimes having a fresh eye come into the scene can be just what you need. It’s more than likely that you’re going to get stuck in a rut at some point in your branding journey, it's happened to me more than once and I guarantee it’ll happen again - like I say we base ourselves from what other people do, post and say and its completely normal, its how we get our inspiration after all, so it's forever changing - our initial intentions and basis will always stay the same but the way we portray it may change.
Anyway. I feel like I’ve gone on a tangent there but I hope you get what I was trying to say and the importance of being authentic when you show up online, offline, anywhere and how investing in something like a Brand Story package can grow you & your branding to new heights.
People may find it strange that I’d say this, but if you are looking to get some brand photography done then make sure you find the photographer that best matches you and your style. It’s all well and good going to the cheapest option because you’re on a budget, the most expensive option because you assume they’ll be the best, or even the one that posts the most online because they must be the busiest. Forget all of those factors, yes of course they’re important but in this situation they’re not the deal breaker. The deal breaker is their style of work.
You want to know that what you’re getting will suit your branding, and if your branding is light, airy and minimalistic then I’m ya gal.
Haha only joking! But in all seriousness go for the one who draws your attention every time they post, because that’s going to be the one that’ll do you the best job. And you know what, whatever you feel whenever you see their posts...that’s exactly what other people will feel when they start to see you posting your Brand Story.
